Pizza Creation Step-List
Easy-to-follow guide: Publication Design class
For this piece, I was tasked with creating an instructional pamphlet for a process of my choosing, which I decided on being how to create the perfect pizza. The overall structure of this pamphlet when printed out was a simple two-fold structure that had continued design along its entirety (the image at the top was the cover, and the image at the bottom was the inside). The main concept that I wanted to portray was giving someone a feeling of hunger from the imagery, as well as a playful yet classic feeling reminiscent of what one would see in an Italian restaurant. it is for this reason that I had made the colors predominately tan and brown with accented red, in order to imitate the scheme of a pizza but also the aesthetic of an old restaurant. For the cover, I had painted both the oven and the pizza, having it fly out of the oven towards the right for an added sense of dynamism that guides the viewers eye from the central focal point of the fire within the kiln to the pizza and the words, with the pizza even acting as an underline for the word’s emphasis. The general art is a painterly stroke reminiscent of Italian paintings that is printed on a canvas, a grand part of the culture that can be applied symbolically to the act of making pizza, as that could also be seen as an art form. For the inside, drawn pepperonis act as markers for the information displayed, and the ‘Extra style options’ at the bottom are meant to be an extension of this concept, highlighting the other possibilities in a way that is akin to a wooden pizza tray. The top right corner adds a partial flair to the rest of the colors, showcasing what goes into making the pizza in the same vain as the information intends to display that. Overall, I hope that when looking at the piece, people have a desire to create a visually and appetizing looking pizza, with the steps involved being simple and easy to read/understand.
